Crazy week – literally the instant my son was born (I mean, right there in the delivery room!), Grammy-winning, mega-platinum producer Ken Lewis (Kanye West, Lenny Kravitz, Beastie Boys, a zillion others) texted to say that we had an emergency session for a VERY high-profile hip hop artist that needed to be done immediately, if not sooner… Read more Back in studio with producer extraordinaire Ken Lewis

Playing drums on Kanye West’s new single “Power”
So, the official word came in – I believe I will be heard playing drums on Kanye West’s upcoming single “Power,” due out shortly (full album by the same name due in September). I recreated a King Crimson sample for producer Ken Lewis Read more Playing drums on Kanye West’s new single “Power”

In Session This Week – Tam Lin Music and Bouncy Cassette
Two radically different projects this week, both great fun!
From my old home town of Bloomington, Indiana comes Bouncy Cassette, a damn fine project from the twisted mind of Brian Chauncey. The track is “Rollerskate,” and it was a great chance to brush off my Disco/R&B chops, clean the rust off the Agogo bells, and (attempt to) skate! Jake at Farm Fresh Studios did a nice mix of the tune, too. Look for more funky jams from Chauncey and the Bouncy Cassette crew soon!
I’ve had the pleasure of performing live with Brooklyn’s Tam Lin several times over the past few years, Read more In Session This Week – Tam Lin Music and Bouncy Cassette
Rhythm Section Tracks with Matthew Wilson – Listen!
My long-time co-conspirator Matthew Wilson has created a couple of new loops for our Drum Tracks page. Matt and I toured the US and recorded together for several years with my former band Johnny Socko, recorded with Chris Coolidge and the Aurelians, and performed with Welsh singer/songwriter Julia Jones. We continue to work together today thanks to the glory of the Internet! Matt’s an amazingly talented musician, and Read more Rhythm Section Tracks with Matthew Wilson – Listen!
In Session This Week: Man on Earth, Julia Jones and King Krone’s AM Gold
A week of widely-varied and very interesting projects:
First of all, cut a track for Steven Nathan of Man on Earth. Man on Earth is in the process of blowing up (Matt Pinfield says they’re “a band worth definitely checking out!”), and it was really cool to work with Steven – great songwriter, and an incredibly cool dude. The song was a demo for a new project and called for big, brash rock drums – very fun to play. Plus, it’s quite an honor to work with anyone who’s worked with Dr. Fink of Prince and the Revolution!
Next up on the agenda, recording with Welsh singer/songwriter Julia Jones. I’ve worked… Read more In Session This Week: Man on Earth, Julia Jones and King Krone’s AM Gold

In Session with Blues/Rock/Soul Singer Kirsten Thien
The brilliant Blues/Rock/Soul singer/songwriter Kirsten Thien has been hard at work recording a followup to her 2005 release “She Really Is” for Screen Door Records. Kirsten’s live band is playing on half the record, with Howlin’ Holf’s guitarist Hubert Sumlin and his band Read more In Session with Blues/Rock/Soul Singer Kirsten Thien
